What We Do

Seeds of Independence is a non-profit corporation committed to ensuring that youth are on a pathway toward becoming independent and productive members of their community.

Our Vision

Our non-profit serves the Greater Midcoast region of Maine and aims to promote independence, health and wellness, and the empowerment of youth. We have accomplished this through mentoring, education, and by creating and facilitating opportunities for young people within our community.

Together, Seeds Of Independence advocates for young people by creating dialogue and mentoring both adults and youth to be a catalyst for social and racial equity and economic justice.

Our Programs

With close to twenty years of experience running community-based mentor programs, with over 100,000+ hours of volunteer time (based on building relationships with youth and helping them develop the tools needed to succeed); Seeds Programs are developed at Brunswick Landing for kids and young adolescents as well as in the Brunswick and Freeport schools.

As a community-funded organization, Seeds has had the flexibility to try several different programs based on the immediate needs of youth. We have the capacity and adaptability to listen to our mentors about what is effective, both short and longer-term, and revise accordingly.

Seeds continues to be about our community volunteers, mentors, facilitators, and gifted educators. That is who we are, and mentoring is what we believe in.
